What inventors had the most bizarre deaths?
The inventor of the diesel engine, Rudolph Diesel spent his last evening on a ship in 1913.
It was a steam-powered boat that was taking him and an additional crew to a business meeting in London.
The last time anyone saw him was when he retired to his cabin. The following morning they never heard from him, when someone went to inspect his cabin to find his pajamas laid out.
After that, nothing.
His body was eventually found floating many miles away. His wallet later identified him. They still don’t know how he fell overboard or what happened. His body had been at sea for nearly two weeks and was unrecognizable. They also didn’t have great autopsy techniques back then.
The best guess is that he killed himself, but we will never know the answer. He was 55 years old at the time of his death. (He is not related to Vin Diesel.)
